    1964年9月初中毕业往赣北农场务农。1981年调江西省文艺研究所从事专业文学创作及研究。1985年考入武汉大学中文系，1987年获汉语言文学学士学位。现为江西省文联主席，江西省作协主席。1972年开始发表作品。著有中短篇小说集《带海风的螺壳》《天鹅湖畔》《陈世旭小说精选》，长篇小说《梦洲》《裸体问题》《将军镇》《世纪神话》《边唱边晃》等。小说《小镇上的将军》、《惊涛》《马车》分别获得1979年、1984年和1987-1988年全国优秀短篇小说奖，中篇小说《镇长之死》获第一届鲁迅文学奖。
