Zhao Yuhe, an 83 year-old farmer, spending her whole life in Leizhou Peninsula, never thought that she could become the best actress in a film festival.

        At the award ceremony, this aged woman told the audience in her Leizhou dialect as an unprofessional actress that she felt very honored. It is hard for her to perform since she is illiterate and only speaks Leizhou dialect.

        The Second Zurong Dialect Film Festival was held in a small village in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. This year 582 dialect films were collected across the country. Compared with the first Zurong Dialect Film Festival, the number of the films doubled.

        Zhao Yuhe played a role in a Leizhou’s Min dialectfilm Mobile Phone. Among the 16 awarded films in different dialects include Tibetan film Ganglameiduo, Cantonese film The Legend Scholar and etc.

        China has the one of the most abundant languages varieties in the world including more than 130 different languages from five language stocks including Sino-Tibetan, Altaic,Austronesian, Austro-Asiatic and Indo-European, 10 main Chinese dialects and numerouslocal dialects. 

        Shooting a dialect film is just a side of protecting dialect culture. In China,many primary schools and kindergardens have done useful activities to expore dialect Culture. Dialect textbooks have been used in some areas. 

        This August, Lingnan Dialect Culture Preservation Center was established with the help of Guangdong Radio and Television Station，who has created a show Everything or Nothing playing on TVS-2 and gaining attention. 

        Party with Music and Dialect, the first Chinese dialect music variety show, was popular among young people after being broadcasted on Iqiyi platform last year. 

        The CCTV full-length documentary Chinese Language, which promotes Chinese dialect culture, is now being photographed all over the country.
